I really didnt want to move much around with all of this going on. Now Im thinking more and more about putting a lot of stuff over into bonds for a while and see how things pan out.

For those of us 20+ years from retirement this couldn't have come at a better time. However, CN713 may be in need of a pot to piss in soon.

People watch too much TV.

I never look at what any of my stuff is doing. I'm 35 years away from even thinking about retiring.

Why do I care if it fluctuates right now?

Yeah, I just made some moves to mine. Lost some so far, but Im far enough away to make it all back. Still, I couldnt take it any more watching my money disappear. Wont be seeing much returns until I make some more changes, but its better than seeing it evaporate. Plus like I said I'll have plenty of time to make all of that back.

See Razor's post above.

How many posters on here are 50+?

Can't very many I wouldn't think.

Anyway, I wasn't being derogatory towards the original post, just pointing out that people freak out over this stuff way too much.

Quick! Spend more taxpayer money!

Don't worry. One of our fiscally liberal representatives will be along shortly to explain to you how spending more money will get us out of debt as opposed to cutting back on expenses and applying that money to debt already incurred.

As for Joe's post above....you need to wake up man. I definitely hear what you're saying, and while I've been known to fly off the handle over minor issues, on here especially, this is pretty serious. We haven't seen stuff like this in this country's history. Unless the people get off their ass and demand reform these jackasses in Washington are going to ruin us. Both parties have been rooting us from behind for decades if not longer. We cannot let this crap continue. It's supposed to be "We the people" but "the people" don't seem to give a s*(@ about what's happening as long as you don't take everything away from them at once in a conspicious manner. You have to slowly chip away at liberties and paychecks a bit at a time until finally it becomes too much to bear and either the country collapses or the people revolt. History will show that will happen 10 times out of 10.

Standard s--te & Piss Poors should have downgraded the US to AA+ in 2008 if they were going to be insistent on downgrading us.

Why they wait until Friday to do it is very interesting. They know that the Euro will soon collapse. They know that that will wreck all kinds of havoc on the markets when it happens. They have been keeping tabs on China and how it's economy is beginning to slow down.

Ezra Klein makes a good point in this article today in the Washington Post: Standard & Poor’s inconsistencies - Ezra Klein - The Washington Post

"Standard & Poor’s downgrade of the U.S. economy is beginning to look like a kamikaze mission. The credit-rating agency delivered its payload, but at the cost of destroying its own credibility."

I love how all Tim geithner had to say abt it was s&p used "bad judgement" in downgrading our credit. Basically pointing fingers instead figuring out conclusions to our problems

It's not stupid. If I'm spending more money than I'm taking in and only paying the intrest on my debt I can guarantee you my credit rating will be s--t. The U.S. government deserves worse than this. We need to wake up and start paying our bills and act responsibly.

yeah...no need to be concerned except for those retired. You need your own talk show on economics. Have you even been watching any TV the past few days ? Future looks bright..

Amazing...

Not very many..as a teacher I never had money to invest and add one divorce to that and Ole Hogan has never got to invest very much, so all this crap in Washington is not hurting me very much.

I would buy Gold or Silver and make sure I voted Obama out of office....that is the most important thing is to get some true leadership in Washington, we have none now. One and Done for Obama- you had your chance and you blew it.

If you see any true leadership in any of the GOP candidates, your eyes are in worse shape than mine.

I can't see myself voting for Obama again, but I don't think I could vote for any of the GOP candidates without throwing up in the booth.

You just took it 20 steps past what I was saying, haha.

Anyone remember what happened October 10th, 2009?

I doubt it.

But it was a "historical" situation as well.

All I was saying is that some folks watch too much TV and are convinced the world as we know it is coming to an end just because the stock market takes a big hit. Of course we have morons running this country, but we've rebounded before and we will again.

Sooner or later- probably later- people will realize this behavior can't continue and will pull back.

Just have to wait it out and contribute what you can to make it happen.

I'm not disagreeing that this is really bad, but I guess I'm not all that surprised.

And you keep mistaking me for some ardent Trump fan. Don't know how many times I have to tell you, I voted for Kasich and loved when Mitt Romney tore Trump apart   I am about as far from a protectionist as you will find

Exactly, he tells you what you want to hear. With no plan to follow.... But he'll reveal it soon...afrer all, its only two months til election..he'll let us know pretty soon, I reckon, what his plan is.... but that wall is the plan, millions of dollars that will be pissed off before construction, then billions to build it and we pay for it.When I say we,i don't include trump because he don't pay taxes. He's a rich welfare baby.... screw that deadbeat bitch...

Maybe it's been so long since we have seen a candidate with a clue we don't recognize them anymore.  Boarders, Standards (law), and Culture. The fundamental essence of a nation. As it stands the system has all but removed them from this dying once great nation. Nobody respects them anymore. No one want to acknowledge they matter. Hell Trump wasn't my first or second choice but he has the message we need to hear
