If it is anyone other than Sindarius Thronwell then the award is crap.

He is:

#2 in scoring
#6 in reb/game
#1 in steals/game
#1 in PER
#1 in defensive rating
#1 in win shares
#1 in box plus/minus
#3 in offensive rating

Its going to Malik Monk, just go ahead and accept it.

Monk was able to overcome terrible coaching so he will probably get a lot of votes.

Also I have no idea what most of those stats are or represent.

Put Monk on a different team and he finished third or fourth.  While he is a great player he didn't do nearly as much as Thornwell this season.

South Carolina senior Sindarius Thornwell was named SEC Player of the Year on Tuesday, completing a season where he finished second in the league in scoring, sixth in rebounding, third in minutes and first in steals. Thornwell said before the season started that it was a dream of his to be named Player of the Year and the league’s coaches granted his wish.

Thornwell is the first player in USC history to win SEC Player of the Year and the second to win conference player of the year (John Roche won the ACC’s top honor in 1969 and 1970). South Carolina also became the fourth school in SEC history to boast the SEC men’s and women’s players of the year in the same season (USC’s A’ja Wilson won her second straight POY prize last week).

Lmao @ all the butthurt from the runner ups.  More talk in here about Kentucky than thwre is about the actual awards.  Y'all gonna hang banners and hold parades?  We didnt even print shirts for the SEC title.  We're focused on champin in three weeks.

I look forward to another No.1 class failing to actually achieve No.1

They dont give Cal COTY the same reason they dont give it to Saban and you damn well know it.  Same reason they typically give our best guy freshman of the year in order to give someone else a token nod at player of the year.

That being said, CMW and Thornwell both have had awesome seasons and deserve their awards.  But lets not kid ourselves.

They never really said that I heard.  It was obvious that he broke some kind of team rule(s), but Frank Martin never gave any explanation.

Hardly, just pointing out the obvious.  Cal and Saban should receive COTY every year, but they don't unless its an exceptional season.  Otherwise they look around for the next best storyline in order to spread the wealth.

Player of the year, since Cal, has pretty much been a matter of giving UK the rookie of the year and another team the player of the year to spread the wealth.  Its not sour grapes, its simply pointing out facts.  Only time we didnt get it was last year, where Ben Simmons got it but Tyler Ulis was POTY.  Marshall Henderson and Nerlens Noel somehow both got it in 2013.  But if you're going to sit here with a straight face and try to tell me you think Scottir Wilbekin and Bobby Portis are better than Karl Anthony Towns and Julius Randle you're full of shit.

The way I understood it, he had a minor run in with the law(like traffic violation or something), and didnt tell anyone until someone else found out. Could be BS, hell probably is, with the way police incidents are immediately reported on these days, no matter how trivial. The school was never very clear exactly what the deal was, though.

Either would win it easily this year

My eyes are brown.

No one cares about NBA potential in college basketball except for Kentucky fans.

Because the only thing Cal is good at is recruiting lottery picks and crying to refs and media.

And getting to the Final Four, winning the SEC, beating Florida's ass, winning more games than any other program in the country since he's been here.  What has Florida done?

Swept UK en route to a perfect regular and SEC tourney record.

Given Cal his worst loss ever at UK.
