South Africa to seize land from whites for redistribution

Under the proposed legislation, the state can acquire land without the owners' consent by paying an amount determined by the office of the Valuer-General, effectively scrapping a "willing-buyer, willing seller" formula. Owners can challenge the compensation offered in court.

The ANC's challengers in the August local elections, widely seen as a run-up to the 2019 general poll, include the ultra-left Economic Freedom Fighters, which has vowed to seize white-owned land for redistribution to landless blacks.

Zuma said South Africa was "the only country in the world where the majority do not control the economy."

So basically they want to go the Zimbabwe route, or even a route similar to Soviet Russia that resulted in millions of people starving to death.

But who cares right, there are evil white people to punish...

Might as well do it. For years the farmers would get their choice of leaving or die just as their crop was ready for harvest. Since that started we have had increasing population of South Africans coming to work farms. You can always recognize them cause they wear pointed cowboy boots with short pants. They are hard working folks that don't want to knock off cause the sun went down.

There's an entire resource rich continent there.  Sure, Europeans went and brutally instituted the slave trade, colonization, etc.  But there are a lot of rich Africans who did the trading and are well to do as a result.  You can't tell me after all these decades, hell centuries, these poor blacks still haven't figured out how to be sulf sustaining and prosper.  I don't for the life of me understand it.

mini dictators running the place and countries use them to get their resources. Now and then a mini dictator catches on he is being used, gets pissed, kills a bunch of folks or pirates a ship he wasn't supposed to just to make a point

Looks like they should’ve been more concerned with securing water than securing land from white people.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/01/africa/cape-town-water-crisis-intl/index.html

Cape Town -- a city once at the forefront of Africa's green movement -- implemented new emergency water restrictions Thursday as the sprawling metropolis prepares for the day its taps run dry.

Residents are now being asked to curb the amount of municipal water they use each day to just 50 liters (a little over 13 gallons). Only a month ago, level six restrictions had placed residents on a daily allowance of 87 liters (about 23 gallons), illustrating the severity of the looming crisis.
Officials estimate that if water levels continue to fall as expected, South Africa's second most populous city will run out of water by April 16, which has been dubbed "Day Zero."
Experts are keeping a close eye on daily consumption in a desperate bid to avoid the disaster, warning residents tempted to ignore measures that they face fines and the installation of water-management meters if they do not comply.

It may seem unthinkable that a developed city of four million could run out of water but it's been a slow-burning catastrophe exacerbated by some uncontrollable factors.
Cape Town been enduring the worst drought in a century for the past three years. A changing climate and rapidly growing population have made matters worse.
And as the crisis has taken hold, Capetonians have not been doing enough to curb their water use, further aggravating the scarcity. Only an estimated 55% of the city's residents are actually sticking to their allotted water per day, according to last week's figures issued by authorities.

The city is now working to upgrade its water systems -- rushing to build desalination, aquifer and water-recycling projects -- and help stretch the current supply, but officials say residents need to step up, too.
"It is quite unbelievable that a majority of people do not seem to care and are sending all of us headlong towards Day Zero," the mayor's office said in January. "We can no longer ask people to stop wasting water. We must force them."

That is tragic, genuinely.

Agreed. Getting food to places experiencing famine is one thing, but the timewindow for getting water to a city of four million people that doesn’t have any is considerably smaller. Hopefully they can get their sh!t together, but I expect we’ll hear more about this story in April.

Zinbabwe was a food exporter until they ran off or murdered the white farmers. Now they are starving.

It would seem that these folks didn't think this thing through.

When they took over anyone could see it would be just a matter of time before this type of thing would happen. There weren't enough people prepared to run this big of an operation.

Oh well,live and learn...
