Florence, Alabama Vandy recruit drafted 7th

Marlins draft Garrett seventh overall

FLORENCE — Brax Garrett didn’t get much sleep Wednesday night.

He tried to watch a movie until he fell asleep, knowing Thursday would likely change his life forever.

He was right.

The Florence High School pitcher was taken seventh overall by the Miami Marlins in the Major League Baseball draft Thursday night. The assigned value for that picks is $3,756,300, though his advisor Scott Boras could negotiate a better deal.

However, it might be for naught if Garrett decides to stick with his college commitment after signing with Vanderbilt earlier this year.

That's a tough call. A degree from Vandy plus their coaching staff is potentially a better long term deal

If boras can negotiate him $4mil plus out of high school you don't turn that down, no matter the full ride from vandy

And another reason why Bama needed another coach, can't keep in state talent interested with that staff.

First round talent rarely ever comes to school. Not worth the resources for bama. Vandy has a huge money and can offer academic scholarship through their opportunity fund how they see fit because they are a private school. They have an upper hand in recruiting nationally and taking chances on kids who will likely go pro. And the scholarship limitations that plague us are not a problem for them. That's why they almost always have top 3 classes. The vandy education part doesn't hurt either

If a kid turns down 3.7 million bucks, he's too stupid to go to college....

Yep,i don't like the one and done thing.Let them go pro out of high school or stay a few years in college.

I don't blame them for taking the money, just don't like what it does to college basketball.

But that's just my opinion, take that and four bucks and we can buy a cup of coffee...

It will trickle back into the economy. I told her to spend it on herself whether is $50 or saved up more but to spend it cause that helps the economy. She loved my idea of doing her part to help.

Nobody has a problem with fully auto being banned. I personally have no problem with a 21 age limit. Not because I’m over a hundred but because if they didn’t have a Dad that could teach them how to handle a gun then they got learning to do. Folks argue the military allows 18 with a gun but they are getting training. To end on this the ar is not an assault weapon and in its bought condition is no more deadly than any other gun.
