2014-15 SECTalk Football Pick 'Ems Contests (SEC/NCAA and NFL)

239 posts in this topic

SECTalk.com will host three football pick 'em contests for 2014-2015:

-2014-15 SEC/NCAA Football (including Conference Championship games and Bowl Games)

-2014-15 NFL (including Playoffs)

-2014-15 College Football Bowl Season (Bowl Games will be included with the regular SEC/NCAA Football Pick 'Ems; however, a separate Bowl winner will also be declared based on only the Bowl Games)

To get to the Pick 'Ems, click on "Pick 'Ems" at the top of the page.

All games have been submitted for the 2014-15 SEC/NCAA Football Regular Season and 2014-15 NFL pick ‘ems, with a couple of exceptions. Obviously, the SEC/Other Conference Championship Games, Bowl Games, and the NFL Playoff Games cannot be entered until the matchups are known towards the end of the season.

In addition to SEC matchups during the regular season, I tried to select several other intriguing games each week involving non-SEC teams. My goal was to provide at least 15 games each week to pick.

This is not a spread based contest. You simply pick the winner of each game. You can get to the Pick 'Ems by clicking the "Pick 'Ems" tab at the top of the page. Make sure when you make your picks, you remember to click “Submit Picks” at the bottom of the week’s pick ‘ems. If you want to make changes to your picks prior to the week’s pick ‘ems closing, you can make changes and click “Submit Picks” again, and it keeps your latest changes in the system.

In the past, on several occasions, I’ve had people tell me that they forgot to make their picks after the pick ‘ems closed and asked me to make their picks for them. I CANNOT make your picks for you. So, make sure to get them in prior to closing. One thing I do (and recommend you do the same) is make several week’s picks in advance to make sure I don’t miss a week. After all, you can still go back and make changes right up until closing, even if you’ve already entered your picks. Plus, if the site has issues which prevents you from making your picks right before game time, your pick(s) is already in the system.

Each game will close prior to kick off (each game has it's own individual closing time). Obviously, many (and most) games in the college pick 'ems do not have a scheduled start time as of yet. So, I set the closing time for unknown game times as 12:00 Eastern on the Saturday that they are scheduled since that is the earliest the game should start. As each week gets closer, we will try to enter the exact starting time when it is announced so that you have ample time to enter your pick.

Picking Schedule

Since Thursday night games are televised, I included a Thursday night game for almost every week in the SEC/NCAA Pick 'Ems. Make sure to make the pick for those Thursday night games prior to kick-off.

The same holds true for NFL picks. Most weeks include a Thursday night game.

The bottom line is that it's up to you to keep up and get your picks in before closing,

Participation

Any registered user may register in any and all contests. Ties for prizes will be broken as follows: Tiebreaker for the SEC/NCAA Pick 'Ems will be total points scored by both teams in the NC Game, and tiebreaker for the NFL will be total points scored by both teams in the Super Bowl. It'll be up to the posters that are tied to post their total points tiebreaker here in this thread. I'll PM those who are tied if possible.

Prizes

SEC Talk is offering $500 in team gear for the Pick 'Ems. Here's how we decided to break out the prizes:

NCAA/SEC Pick 'Ems:

1st place $150 in team gear

2nd place $100 in team gear

3rd place $50 in team gear

NFL Pick 'Ems:

1st place $100 in team gear

2nd place $60 in team gear

3rd place $40 in team gear

One requirement for being eligible for prizes: You must have made 500 posts during football season (starting next Monday, Aug 25th through the NCAA College Championship Game for the college ones and then through the Super Bowl for the NFL ones).

If you have any questions regarding the contest, feel free to contact me or Benny.

Thanks for reading, and good luck to everyone.

One significant change from last year is that you can no longer see who other posters have picked prior to the game starting. However, once the game starts, you can click on the % by each game and it shows who picked which team.

As in the past, if anyone sees any errors in the games, let me know.

Hell, you're as old as I am. If we won the prize, we'd forget we got it and bitch and moan about how old we're getting. :D

You can still see the "Trend %" before the game closes, but you can't click on it and see who picked which team (like last year).

Ah ok gotcha. I say we hide the trends, make people think about every pick. HAHA.

Not sure how difficult that would be. Benny would have to fix it to make it like that.

Can we do this? @@Benny

I might just go ahead and predict the entire season, seeing is how I always forget to submit my picks by like Week 3 and then I'm screwed for the rest of the year

I might try picking with a hard on. Women always say we think with our pecker and they just may be right.

If I try picking with a hard on, it will have to be first thing in the mornings... Not worth a dang the rest of the day.

I love the pick-ems and the idea of it.

The problem? Deciding ties by post count...

This encourages people to just post to post and not to offer anything meaningful.

I would recommend the tie-breaker to be a points situation for the National Championship. Something like total points scored combined without going over.

Just food for thought.

OK, we'll try it that way this year. I had similar suggestions last year from several other posters. Tiebreaker for the NCAA Pick 'Ems will be total points scored by both teams in the NC Game, and tiebreaker for the NFL will be total points scored by both teams in the Super Bowl.

Editing the OP to reflect the above.

Once one of the MS teams lose, whether it's us or y'all, I'll probably post 500 times anyway. The iaBdfkZ.png talk has been calm for the last few months, but that iaBdfkZ.png is gonna flare up.

Can you imagine October 5th if both teams are still undefeated? This iaBdfkZ.png storm is going to be amazing. I will relish the moment and come together with my racist brothers up north, even if for one week, just to rustle the collective jimmies of the rest of the SEC.

LSU is the only Power 5 team in a state with a tiny population compared to Texas.  LSU and Bama made out like bandits by bringing in A&M.  And to show how autonomous LSU is, wasn't their recent change decided at ULL game?   Houston?  A serious multi-year threat?  With their pack 45,000 seat stadium and limited funds?   They flash every few decades. They won't keep TH that long.   tu?  Can't compete with the SEC brand.  TCU and Baylor?  Self-destruct at least once per 20 years.

I stopped watching it 28 minutes before it started.

They will always play second fiddle to Texas.  And they are likely about to share their metropolitan area with a new Power 5 team in Houston that has the hottest coach in the country.   Both have all the money and resources they could ever hope for.  A coach isn't going to ask for something and not receive it at either.  But LSU is the only player in their state and they have autonomy.  That's the tie breaker in my opinion.

TAMU is in  a bigger state with more folks and more folks with deeper pockets if for no other reason than sheer population alone.

Trump didn't deny  not paying any federal taxes.... just wait for the audit..wonder which country he's paying his lower taxes to?...frick that semi wealthy tax dodging bastard....I guess I'm paying for his freeloading ass
