Bowl Pecking Order for 2014 season

13 posts in this topic

As I understand it, here is what the "postseason" looks like for the SEC

1. Championship Playoff in either the Rose or Sugar Bowl.

2. Orange Bowl (the SEC still puts it's best available team in the Sugar bowl; BUT, when the Sugar is one of the "playoff venues', we have cut a deal with the Orange Bowl.

3. Capital One Bowl

AFTER THAT, the SEC selects which teams go to the:

4. Outback Bowl

5. Music City Bowl

6. Gator Bowl

7. Liberty Bowl

8. Texas Bowl

9. Belk Bowl

AFTER THAT, the

10. Birmingham Bowl will have its choice of any available SEC team.

ALL of our bowl tie ins are against the B1G, Big 12 & ACC. That sucks. We should have at least ONE out of 10 bowls be a PAC 12 tie in...

I, for one, will not miss Shreveport.

Oh yeah, the Peach Bowl also picks a highly ranked 'at large" team. Who thinks they won't take the best SEC team they can get?

So, unless the SEC champion gets left out of the playoffs (which could only happen if our champ has 2 losses and all the other champs are undefeated or only have 1 loss); we have to have TWELVE bowl eligible teams for Bham to get an SEC team...

I am pretty sure that the Peach is higher in the pecking order than the Capital one - can anyone confirm that?

No...the Capital One is the best non BCS bowl(and highest paying) that there is.

Peach and Cotton would be in there somewhere.

yeah - I'd be happy with Bham if I am KY

You got 4 "winnable games" that you will be favored in or should be able to win -

Aug. 30 - UT Martin

Sept. 6 - Ohio University

Sept. 27 - Vanderbilt

Oct. 11 - ULM

Plus 3 games that you should be able to be competitive in -

Oct. 25 - Mississippi State

Nov. 1 - at Missouri

Nov. 15 - at Tennessee

Win 2 of those and you are Birmingham bound!

The rest of your schedule looks like a stretch at best to pick up another win -

Sept. 13 - at Florida

Oct. 4 - South Carolina

Oct. 18 - at LSU

Nov. 8 - Georgia

Nov. 29 - at Louisville

All three of your competitive games should be in the stretch group.

So only one of them is going to be played this year? You don't have either of them in your listing.

Comments about the Peach Bowl are incorrect. It is one of the annual Semifinal sites and SEC will have nothing to do with selection of the teams for it in any year.

• The CFP selection committee of 13, a group of five current athletics directors, former players and administrators, among others, will seed the top four teams for the playoff to set up two semifinal games set for New Year’s Day at two rotating bowl games. This year, the Rose and Sugar will serve as semifinal sites. The Orange and Cotton will host next year, followed by the Peach and Fiesta in 2016.

• The winners of the semifinals meet Jan. 12 in the championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Glendale, Ariz., will host the title game after the 2015 season, followed by Tampa, Fla., in 2016.

• The committee will also rank the next group of teams and assign them to the three New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day bowls that don’t have conference affiliations (Cotton, Peach, Fiesta) when they’re not hosting the semifinals that particular year. In those games, the committee is tasked with creating competitive matchups, avoiding rematches and repeat appearances.
