Charlie Strong to Texas?

121 posts in this topic

Horns247 just reported that Charlie Strong will be the next coach at Texas.. Very good hire, sucks for Louisville. No Bridgewater, Strong in first year of ACC.

Strong is overrated.

He will last 3/4 years max in TX.

I doubt that. Good recruiter and better coach. Think he will take them back to the top. In my opinion, this is a home run. Not a better option available considering Briles and Saban took their names out of the running. I'd even prefer Strong over Mora.

Charlie Strong has built his résumé on two things....a terrible conference/schedule and Tedy Bridgewater (whom Clint Hurt cheated to get).

I can assure you he is not deserving of this position and will fail in short order. Franklin would be a better choice....he has proven more in a MUCH more difficult situation.

Charlie Strong built his team with very good defense. He did as good as possible at Louisville in terms of recruiting. He got 3-4 stars and did more with less in his tenure. I agree James Franklin took over a more difficult situation, but Charlie Strong in my opinion is just the better coach. Bridgewater wasn't a 5* prospect, and he developed him into a top 5 pick. He wins his bowl games and beats everyone he should beat. Don't really understand what more he could've done in his time at Louisville.

Bridgewater was a 4/5 star QB.

What more could he do at UofL? How about beat teams that sucked? Lol. He lost to inferior teams in a piss poor conference.

TX is too much job for him to handle.

False. Bridgewater was a 4* on every site: http://rivals.yahoo.com/louisville/football/recruiting/player-Teddy-Bridgewater-87781

This is all an elaborate ruse to distract Greg McGarity while Texas puts the finishing touches on a 10 year deal with Richt.

Now Strong to replace Richt at Georgia is a concept fully endorsed by CCRider.

Good defense?

Kentucky rung up 376 yards of offense against them and we sucked.

He is an underachiever. And will fail at TX.

Bridgewater was gonna be great wherever he ended up. Strong, himself didn't make Bridgewater a great QB. He's a defensive minded coach

You said 3/4 I said 4/5.

He was a 4. I'd say we were both half right. The bottom line is he played against inferior talent and did not run the table.

He turned UofL around in a short time frame. He did more with less. Every coach has bad losses-- Saban, Franklin, Urban.. Etc. Not saying he's bear Bryant, but I am saying he is the best option on the market. He develops players, his teams are well coached, was a good recruiter at UofL, and wins bowl games vs good opponents in better conferences.

I said he got 3-4 star prospects, never said Bridgewater was a 3*. Louisville doesn't have a single 5* player on their roster and beat Florida/Miami in back to back seasons.

Manziel was also a 4*

Ratings aren't always reliable.

Johnny Manziel was a 3* not a 4*. And obviously. But it takes a good recruiter to find guys like this and win games. Which is what Strong did. He found 3* and 4* and turned the program around.

He might be a great coach but he also might bust. That's a huge amount of pressure. He's been coaching at a school that has about 1/10 of the fan base UK does. The Courier Journal in Louisville talks more about UK than UL. Texas is gonna be a completely different world.

Yep and admittedly FL and Miami were their typical Top 5 selves.

I would list the s--tty teams UofL lost to but something tells me you would care. So I'll just say time will tell if TX is dumb enough to hire him and if they are.....lol.

Louisville is rated the 2nd best defense and only allowed 12 points a game. I'd consider that a good defense.

That's all true. Louisville was a dumpster fire and he's gonna leave the program in a lot better shape than BP did.

If Ole Miss played their schedule where would they be ranked on defense?

Do you not listen? He turned the team around. It wasn't like his guys were 5* players playing against a pretty weak schedule. Of course he isn't going to go undefeated every single year. But he did beat Florida in a BCS bowl. They lost one game that entire season and had much better athletes. He also beat Miami and Miami has much better athletes. He DEVELOPS players. He turned 3* guys into solid players at a higher level. No telling what he can do now at Texas.

If we played their schedule we'd probably be bowling. How's that for perspective?

I'd assure you they wouldn't have beaten Florida last year. Plus, ole miss has more talent than Louisville. They get better recruits because they're in a better conference, a better school, and have better facilities.

HIS SCHEDULE WAS ONE THAT A BLIND RETARDED MONKEY COULD DO WELL WITH.

You will see.

He will fail.

I will laugh.
