      Always had them around us, just not in the numbers we have now. We used to wade for bass and handgrab catfish in the lakes and swamps around our end of the big black river and you just dealt with them. I whipped gators with a bass rod to get em to leave, had em run into my legs under water. Even had them come after fish I had on the line and bump the bottom of my kayak but I never really felt threatened. They were a damn nuisance, but 999 times out of a 1000 they didn't want nothin to do with you. Now, I really think they've gotten bolder. Maybe just the numbers, maybe getting used to people,  I dunno. But I don't feel the same way I used to about em...
